Principles and Commitments
These are the principles that guide our work and the concrete commitments that follow from them. It is up to you to decide whether they resonate with yours.
Plenty of flexibility, always with integrity
"Flexibility" is a vague word, and therefore a bit of a catch-all. For us it means handling every project bespoke: proposing solutions genuinely suited to your stakes, your audiences and your technical or legal constraints β never a recycled package.
It also means taking account of how comfortable you are with technology, which varies enormously from one person to the next, and supporting you accordingly β without judgement and without needless jargon.
On respecting the principles set out below, however, we are inflexible.
We commit to being flexible throughout the engagement, while never departing from our professional ethics.
Reliable foundations rather than short-lived effects
We condemn planned obsolescence as consumers β so we refuse to practise it as suppliers. At nuxwp, choosing durability translates into very concrete decisions.
On every site we build we take care over the longevity of the technologies chosen: no proprietary software whose survival depends on one company's goodwill, no language in decline or so rare that you would struggle to find someone to take over from us. Your site must be able to outlive our working relationship. That is also why we do not sell website subscriptions: our clients own their site, they never rent it.
The same logic applies to search. SEO shifts constantly and competition pushes people towards black-hat tactics β the equivalent of intensive farming: immediate gains, damage in the medium term. We prefer to stick to what search engines actually recommend, closer to permaculture: proven methods, deep work, progress that holds. So we will not promise you spectacular returns in three weeks.
Finally, our clients are not guinea pigs: your site is not our playground. We stay with approved, tested techniques. That does not rule out keeping current β a new host, tool or emerging practice is proven on our own sites first, which serve as our laboratories.
We commit to always working towards the longevity of what we build β code delivered, technologies documented, no hidden dependencies.
Head in the cloud, feet on the ground
We are passionate about these technologies and convinced of their potential β which does not stop us knowing their limits and risks. It is our duty to know them and your right to hear about them. So do not expect us to present the web as the land of infinite possibility, or to sell you an enchanted world through "digitalisation". You probably dislike dream-sellers as much as we do.
We commit to declining any project our experience tells us is bound to fail.
That commitment is common sense, yet you will easily find agencies willing to build a project they know is too uncertain. We would rather take two risks: looking like killjoys, and turning down profitable work. It is never pleasant to tell a prospect their goals look unrealistic, or to list the constraints ahead of them. We consider it our responsibility.
Respect for clients and prospects alike
What do we appreciate when we are the prospect? What do we not tolerate as clients? Our commercial practices come from that reciprocity β the golden rule, turned into tangible commitments.
